I don't know if it's the washed-out/pastel colour palette they now opt for, the poor long-range LOD sprites or the lack of good AA. Warscape/TW3 games appear to render pretty awfully since Rome 2 for some reason. ![]() I think it's should be replaced by a more hurling-forwards animation. ![]() The jumping during charge is ott and detracts from the feeling of weight of the orks. It's going to be the annoying kind of micro. You might be able to effectively 'pin' them to another unit using the group function, but it won't be perfect for keeping them safe. The hero units look like they could be a pain to babysit all the time. If you made lance impacts lethal, accompanied with a fancy collision animation and then followed by different close-combat side-arm animations which are probably much easier to devise than lance-based animations within that context. I think this could finally help cav on inf and cav on cav engagements have a bit more 'impact'. While the unit is unengaged, you could have it so that lance/spear-equipped combatants move to the edges of the unit and those who have lost their lance/spear sit in the middle of it. Lets have breaking lances on impact, forcing the cavalryman in question to use his sidearm for the rest of the battle, same for any spear/pike unit. Is it time Total War moved on from perma-lances on cavalry units. We also have not see what the battle looks like with the AI constantly rearranging its line or changing its unit orders, something that notoriously s up the smooth feeling between animations and the general feeling of weight in battles in warscape Total Wars.Ī couple of other points to raise about the demo: ![]() We haven't seen if this 'impact' feeling will be retained when 2 units collide with charge animations. We didn't actually see 2 units charge at each other at the same time in this scripted demo. I think we should be cautious when assuming 'blobbing' and 'sliding' is gone.

This is due in part to the versatility of PS2, fact that it doesn’t use fixed shaders, or that even the games themselves do not use a consistent formula to achieve different graphical effects. The PS2’s graphics pipeline acts very differently from modern GPU cards and emulating it in HW mode with any degree of accuracy is difficult. To conclude on the problems with PS2 emulation, we come to hardware rendering. While PCSX2 allows for the option of either clamping/rounding on both VU and EE as a solution to fix these glitches, it remains by far not the most accurate way to emulate the PS2 FPU. To keep it simple, just changing a couple of numbers will cause glitches to occur to the game’s graphic (VU) and logic (EE), resulting in things like broken AI, odd behaviors, or graphical bugs. Īnother big problem is the emulation of PS2’s own floating-point unit (FPU) because it doesn’t follow the IEEE standard. Moreover, the PS2 just like PS1 uses the MIPS architecture instead of standard x86 code, thus making emulation slower. To emulate them perfectly with correct timing requires an enormous amount of power. Specifically, the PS2 CPU contains a multitude of custom sub-components and chips such as the FPU co-processor, 2 Vector Units, IOP, SPU2, Graphics Synthesizer, and SIF which together work asynchronously to comprise the 128-bit Emotion Engine. But this is not the case, because the clock speed of the emulated CPU is not necessarily indicative of the ease of emulation. Emulation issues ĭespite a large interest in PS2 emulation due to its sizable collection of games, it is still one of the harder consoles to emulate for several reasons.įirst of all: many people believe that since the main CPU (Emotion Engine) runs at a clock speed of 294Mhz (299Mhz on later revisions), it would make emulation easy on recent hardware. One unfortunate problem about the American crow is that it is extremely susceptible to the West Nile virus, which has sent the local crow population plummeting in some areas.Īlthough they have long been considered an omen of death, crows are also considered a sign of good luck in some Native-American tribes. They also have the unusual behavior of not breeding until at least two years of age. Something else that is unusual about the American crow is that, in the winter, they roost in large communal nests of up to over 2 million crows. Crows are scavengers by nature, which is why they tend to frequent sites inhabited by humans in order to feed on their household waste. One interesting fact about the American crow is that, although they are known for eating roadkill, they are not in fact anatomically designed to be scavengers.Īnother interesting fact about crows is that they can actually use rudimentary tools to find food, such as using sticks or hollowed-out nut shells to dig for food. They are scavengers, and when it comes to crow hunting for dinner, it is a very. Crows are not unlike other birds who eat seeds and are bred for their meat like chickens. They realized their idea had the potential to be something much bigger. Their goal was to raise $1,500, but in twenty days they got over $14,000. He decided to give his idea a go, and in 2010 Edward and Sofya launched the Noun Project with a Kickstarter campaign, back when Kickstarter was in its infancy.1 They thought it’d be a good way to introduce the global web community to their idea. Then Edward got laid off during the recession, which turned out to be a huge catalyst. Edward began to imagine crowdsourcing icons and symbols from volunteer designers around the world. Inspiration came from the book Professor and the Madman, which chronicles the use of crowdsourcing to create the Oxford English Dictionary in 1870. With his partner, Sofya Polyakov, he began collecting symbols for a website and writing a business plan. Perhaps his idea for creating a library of icons could actually help people in similar situations. He couldn’t find any website that could provide them. But finding high-quality sources for symbols and icons was difficult. When Edward went on to work at an architecture firm, he had to make a lot of presentation boards for clients. He began thinking how great it would be if he had a simple image or small icon of every single object or concept on the planet. He’d always done a lot of sketches and started to draw what used to fascinate him as a child, like trains, sequoias, and bulldozers. The original idea for the Noun Project came to cofounder Edward Boatman while he was a student in architecture design school. There are millions who use Noun Project symbols to simplify communication across borders, languages, and cultures. ![]() The Noun Project creates and shares visual language. ![]() When you do hit the ground, gliders can be reused and parachutes can be repacked. You can unstrap your glider, and release your chute, and the items will fall with you. You also cannot put your parachute away during flight, but can abandon it for whatever reason. Parachutes are smaller and can be carried around, but give you less maneuverability and air time. You can strap it to your car, or stash it in a glider-sized storage unit, but you can’t stuff it inside even some of the largest backpacks. How would parachutes/gliders work? Gliders, simply put, would not be able to fit inside a backpack. Perhaps the parachute-umbrella could be a rare easter egg in 4.x, but we need actual parachutes, and to fix hang gliders. You have your standard issue military grade umbrella, and you have your “10-foot-wide-but-can-still-be-fit-inside-a-school-backpack” hang glider. Apess did fight to restore Native Americans to their place, both geographically and politically. Apess, however, criticized the old project in order to offer up a revised one. Nevertheless, there were some native born Americans who recognized the mythical portions of the new national history.īecause of the jeremiad of Apess’s preaching and lecturing it becomes tempting to read Apess as a strident voice for some sort of innovative Indian Nationalism. He, a foreigner, was convinced of the veracity of this new national narrative. 3 Tocqueville’s commentary on America demonstrates how this new history was gaining traction. As Fea makes clear in his work, America was not founded as a Christian nation the attempted construction of such a nation was advanced during the early Republic by evangelicals (, pp. ![]() Mark Noll, John Fea, George Marsden, George McKenna, and Nathan Hatch are a few historians who have revealed the building process behind America as a Christian nation. Taken together, these four pillars form the backbone of Christian nationalism in the early Republic. The success of these three pillars was credited to and codified in the fourth pillar: Divine Providence guiding the nation (, p. Working their same interpretive magic on America’s heritage of religious and political liberty, second-generation Americans identified the third pillar, American common law tradition, as having emerged from Christian principles. The second pillar was constructed by the Christian nationalist movement through the composition of countless hagiographies of the supposedly great Christian leaders of the newly-founded nation, the Founding Fathers. 220–21).Īs historian Steven Green has recently explained, the establishment in the early Republic of the Pilgrims as American’s religious forbearers forms the first of what may be termed the four key pillars of Christian nationalism. Outspoken Christian nationalists like Justice Joseph Story joined Tocqueville in solidifying the Pilgrims and the Puritans as the foundation of religious and political liberty present in antebellum America (, pp. As a cultural and political project emanating from the second Great Awakening, as well as the fears of political division, numbers of lettered men and women were “reinventing” the United States as a Christian nation 1. By highlighting this democratic national heritage established in Protestant faith, Tocqueville illuminated one aspect of a greater early Republic campaign to reimagine colonial and revolutionary American history. Tocqueville identified the settlement of New England by the Pilgrims and Puritans in the 1620s as demarcating the beginning of a social trend toward democracy. In the opening chapters of his monumental work Democracy in America, Alexis de Tocqueville observed how “the social condition of the Americans is eminently democratic this was its character at the foundation of the colonies, and it is still more strongly marked at the present day” (, p. This essay concludes that Apess should be read as advancing his own revised form of Christian nationalism his plan for the future of America and national unity embraced establishing a more perfect Christian union. ![]() Apess’s solutions actually rest on revising and enforcing, not destroying, the main components of Christian nationalism. Analyzing Apess’s critiques and his proposed solutions in depth, however, shows that his main problem rests with faulty implementation of genuinely good ideals. Apess is fiery in his critique of Anglo American society and religion he questions the integrity of Christians who treat Native Americans with a double standard. Extensive readings of Apess’s works, scholarship on all aspects of Apess’s life, and analyses of Christian nationalism during the early Republic initially revealed severe conflict. This essay began by inquiring into Apess’s relationship with the Christian nationalism of his day. Pequot Native and Methodist Minister William Apess has received growing recognition among historians as a unique voice for Native Americans-and minorities in general-during the early Republic. |
